Blue Box Warning Systems Update!

Lincoln County School District has completed the installation of Blue Box Warning Systems in all schools, another important tool designed to help protect students and staff during a serious, time-sensitive threat or act of violence. LCSD also provided training on the system and its appropriate use to all staff.

Blue Boxes are mounted in common areas throughout schools, including hallways, gyms and cafeterias, making them accessible from locations beyond the main office. If a Blue Box is activated, two things happen simultaneously: A prerecorded Code Red Lockdown announcement immediately plays throughout the school, and the alarm company is immediately signaled to notify 911 and dispatch law enforcement.

The system is designed to reduce the time between recognizing a serious threat, alerting people throughout the building and notifying emergency responders. The boxes are simple to operate by lifting the protective cover and pushing the button, and they are connected to backup power in case of an outage.

Through a grant, the Blue Box Warning System was installed as a pilot project in 2024. LCSD’s Bond Renewal, overwhelmingly approved by Lincoln County voters in 2025, provided funding to install the Blue Box Warning Systems in all our remaining schools. The Blue Boxes are one more part of LCSD’s ongoing work to reduce risk and keep students and staff safe.
