Network Infrastructure: Building a Stronger Foundation
The district has over 70 network stacks (of various sizes and complexities) spread across 15 buildings. Each building has a main stack (MDF) and a slew of intermediate stacks (IDF). All of these pieces of equipment need to live in specific conditions in order to maintain a strong, healthy, and safe network.
In just a few short months, all MDF closets have received physical security updates (new walls, ventilation, etc.) and several auxiliary upgrades are in motion. Before this time next year, all MDFs and IDFs will be enclosed, ventilated, climate controlled, and physically secured.
A big part of the network upgrades is supplying power to the system for a full day, even if our power is out. This is a necessity to maintain the integrity of the safety and security features of our schools, including the new bond-funded blue box lockdown devices. We are talking about some major battery power going into these closets, which will be integrated into our generator systems.
